Where to start? This is the question that most parents ask themselves when it comes to jumping into the cloth diaper universe. Here is a small summary of all the products that we believe are must-haves. Our mission is to give families the best tools to live a pleasant experience with cloth diapers.
Indeed, more and more families are making the decision to embark on this adventure thanks to this budget and eco-friendly alternative. For more information on the subject, we recommend the following blog post: Why do many families opt for cloth diapers? ?
If you plan on using cloth diapers full-time or even most of the time, you will need the following essentials:
20 to 25 cloth diapers of your choice
To make sure you have enough diapers for proper rotation, the ideal number of diapers is around 24 diapers per child. With this number, you will be able to wash the diapers every 2 to 3 days (a routine that we strongly recommend). Indeed, we recommend washing soiled cloth diapers at a close interval to prevent them from getting too dirty. Soiled diapers can lead to several problems such as formations of holes inside the diaper and inserts, premature wear of the PUL in addition to creating odour problems
Bamboo Liners
et les . Two types of liners are available: Liner rolls and Washable liners. The most popular ones are the liner rolls. These liners are not reusable however, they are biodegradable. Their ease of use has charmed a large number of families. Simply place the liner inside the diaper (against baby's skin) and it will catch anything ‘solid’ letting the rest be absorbed by the bamboo inserts. When changing the diaper, simply toss the liner and its contents in the trash, and the job is done! Its width and thickness will even overcome liquid stools!
Wet Bags
These small waterproof bags allow you to store your soiled diapers and/or clothes with complete peace of mind during outings. A wet bag can hold about 4 or 5 soiled diapers, prevents bad odours from spreading and protects your other products in your diaper bag. You can also easily fix the bag to your stroller thanks to its strap. Depending on your use of cloth diapers and your outing frequencies, we recommend having a minimum of 2 to 3 wet bags.
Pail Liner (De Luxe storage bag)
This large, resistant and waterproof bag is perfect to dispose of your soiled cloth diapers at home and can hold up to 20 diapers. The elastic around the top allows you to place the bag on a pail or you can use the two straps located at the top of the bag to hang it from a pole. This bag does not fully close to prevent moisture buildup. A zipper is sewn along the bottom of the bag allowing you to empty the bag without dirtying your hands. We recommend a minimum of 1 or 2 bags to place your soiled diapers in. According to our community and our experience, 2 pail liners are more than practical for rotation when one of these bags needs to be washed.
Diaper Bag
A diaper bag specially designed for parents' needs is an essential whether they use cloth diapers or not. Our diaper bag is comfortable and has all the features you need to be a well-organised parent.
A few bonus items to make your experience even more enjoyable:
Super-absorbent Inserts
Every pocket diaper comes with 2 bamboo inserts and every All-in-One (AIO) diaper comes with a booster. The absorbency level of the diapers is suitable for a large number of families as it is recommended to change the diaper every 2 to 3 hours. However, some babies may need more absorption as they get older. That's why we have a wide variety of inserts to meet the different needs of each family.
Soft Washable Wipes
For families wishing to reduce their ecological footprint further, washable wipes are a great help when changing diapers. Not only are they gentle on baby's skin, they are also easy to clean, practical and affordable.
Once well equipped, the cloth diaper adventure is way less intimidating! If you are interested in the budget-friendly aspect of cloth diapers, we advise you to take a look at our Municipal Cloth Diaper Grants section..
